You chose a statement about the events in Chapters 5 (Hope Against Hope) and 6 (Go Means Go) of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.

Then you created a series of questions related to your chosen statement.

Now it's time to discuss your questions - the ones you created about the statements you generated about these chapters as a class.

Hint: If you can't recall what happened in chapters 5 and 6, you can always visit:
  • Shmoop ATDPTI (click Summary at the left, and then select the chapter you need to review)
  • SparkNotes ATDPTI (scroll down for the chapter summaries and select 4-6)
  • GradeSaver ATDPTI (under Summary and Analysis on the left, choose the second clump of chapter titles)

Your Task

Create a new comment below.
Include:
  1. The statement you chose.
  2. The question you formulated and chose.
  3. Your thoughts on the statement and the question.
  4. Read other comments.
  5. Respond to at least 3 other comments in a sincere, thoughtful manner supported with details.

In order to experience pleasure or growth, you may need to experience loss or pain.
Can we grow without pain or loss?
In my opinion, yes it's possible to a certain extent. We can learn some things that are simple to us without the need to loss something, or make mistakes.
In other cases it can't. Some things need to be understood through experience, loss, pain, or misunderstanding. Often some feelings can only be felt after something "bad" has happened.
This question, in my perspective, is an open question.

Blue - I would agree with you. Can you give an example of a life lesson we can only learn through loss or pain?
