BC Curriculum EN 10 Literary Studies & New Media

English 10 Literary Studies (Sec 03) and New Media (Sec 02)

Heads UP!  (This week in EN 10 Lit & New Media)

May 11th - 15th
A new version of the Elements of Story Assignment will be available on Google Classroom.

Course Work & Learning Materials - Week by Week

Please note that any materials that can be posted online (based on copyright permissions) will be posted/linked on this page.

This will include learning materials accessed digitally in the classroom, deadlines, assignments and supplementary / support materials.

If a student misses time/classes, they are expected to access their work on this site. Each student is responsible for catching up on missed work, for submitting work to the instructor and for making arrangements to do so.  Most of the work is done in the classroom and relies heavily on supplemental videos and class discussions.

Missed assignments or assignments which students wish to redo because they'd like an opportunity to improve their level of achievement must be co-ordinated with the instructor using the Application to Resubmit process.

If there is limited access from home or the location in which a student will be spending time, students will need to use access when they are back at school in Lunch Labs, after school or on breaks, or access resources available through services like the Whitehorse Public Library,  Skookum Jim Friendship Centre's After School Tutoring Program, the Kwanlin Dün Kenädän Ku House of Learning, and/or other available community resources.

Staying in touch and accessing class work - Google Classroom

Beginning in second semester (January 2020), the vast majority of classroom work, communication and assignment hand-ins for each of Ms. Carrey's courses will be happening on Google Classroom sites.

Please Note the following:
  • The Google Classroom site that Ms. Carrey uses is under the umbrella of the Yukon Education-provided and administered Rapid Identity access portal.  Ms Carrey's Google Classroom pages CANNOT be accessed via any other personal or external .gmail or Google accounts.
    • In particular, the Media courses (ENFP 11 LTNM  and EN 10 LTNM) will be working extensively with online/web-based applications and submitting work digitally for assessment and evaluation. Digital literacy and communication are curricular competencies that are pivotal to the course curricula.
    • Marks will be tracked in Google Classroom this semester.
  • Students and parents must be invited by Ms. Carrey to join a particular class.
    • Students will be invited via their Rapid Identity (YESnet) number.
    • Parents can only be invited via the email account/address of record in Aspen, our Student Information system.   Parents: please make sure that the email address we have on file is the address where you want to receive information about your child/ward, and which you want to use for accessing Google Classroom.  If you are unsure of what address is on file, please contact the PCSS Front Office as teachers cannot edit this system information.
      • Parents can ONLY see information posted by the educators (teacher, EAs) that the entire class sees and the work completion of their own child/ward.  No parent can see the work or commentary of another student.
    • ANY OTHER EMAIL ADDRESS WILL BE DECLINED AS BEING INVALID by Rapid Identity.
  • Students will be set up on Ms. Carrey's Google Classroom for their course section in class with Ms. Carrey.
    • Note: We get the laptops regularly (I try for once a week for the Grade 8s and twice a week for the Gr 10 and 11 Media courses).
  • Students and parents can access the Google Classroom and other applications/tools from home but they MUST GO THROUGH THE RAPID IDENTITY PORTAL anywhere they can access an internet connection and a web browser.
    • Pro Tip - open an Incognito  Window (Chrome) or Private Window (Explorer)  or Private Browsing (Safari) on your computer will make it easier to access Yukon Ed Cloud Services via the Rapid Identity Portal.
