ENGLISH 10 / 11 Summer School Edition

Before delving into the course specific items, please be sure that you have read the info on the following pages of this site:

  • It is the responsibility of all students and their parents/guardians to be familiar with the expectations of students and to familiarize themselves with the process of logging in to Google Classroom via the Yukon Education Digital Services Rapid Identity Portal. 

Please note that there are no hard-copy materials to be picked up for this course.  ALL work will be done online, and submitted online, via Google Classroom. 

What will be working on over the four weeks of Summer School? 

Unit 1 - Communicating Perspectives

  1. Proper Citation
  2. Expository (Informational) Writing
  3. Descriptive Writing
  4. Elements of Story - Conflict
  5. Elements of Story - Plot
  6. Narrative Writing

Unit 2 - Communicating Personal & Cultural Identities

  1. Critiquing a film
  2. Multimedia Personal Identity Project
  3. Making Inferences
  4. Understanding Elements of Oral Language
  5. Writing a personal narrative

Unit 3 - Communicating Personal & Social Responsibility

  1. Digital Citizenship
  2. Community Service (Persuasive writing) 
  3. Poetry as Action
  4. Public Service Announcement

Final Project

Depending on the modules they worked on during the academic year, students will be given a choice of two or three final projects to communicate their learning, understandings and skills of course competencies and content. 

THERE WILL NOT BE A FINAL EXAM

Daily Work Process

  1. Attend Zoom session with Ms Carrey to review learning/concepts
  2. Log in to Google Classroom to watch/read learning materials for the unit/sub-unit
  3. Create a digital text (depending on the assignment, it might be a Google Doc, a Google Slide presentation, a Google Site, an audio or video recording etc) and save it in your G Drive (Yukon Digital Services version NOT your personal Google Drive!) 
  4. Submit the digital text of your work in Google Classroom in the correct assignment.
