Foundations Math 11

Summer School 2018 FH Collins Room 118

Summer School 2018 - FH Collins Secondary School

Foundations Math 11 Upgrade

Instructor: Robin Carrey
Room 118
Welcome to Summer School.
Please note the following rules and expectations:
  • Summer school is NOT intended to replace an entire course.  You are eligible to take an upgrade course in summer school if :
    • you have already taken the credit at the secondary school in which you are usually enrolled but did not earn the credit
    • and the instructor recommended Summer School based on your level of understanding at the end of the regular course.
  • Summer School is like concentrated juice - less time, less overall content (volume of work) but intense.  You need to be committed to success in this course, and be ready to focus your efforts for three hours every day.
    • On the 3rd unexcused absence, a student will be withdrawn from the summer school program.
  • ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.  Missing a day of summer school is like missing a week of regular classes.   There is a LOT of material to cover, and any time missed is less time you have to master the practice work (skills) and content (information).
  • Being consistently late or very late (more than 5 mins) will be counted towards cumulative absences.  2 Lates = 1 Absence.
  • You are expected to be in the classroom from 9am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday, from Monday June 18th through to Friday July 13th, inclusive EXCEPT for the statutory holiday on June 21st for National Aboriginal Day.
    • We will have a break every morning around 10:20 am.   All classes take this break at the same time.  It is only 10 mins long.
  • There is no caf service and the vending machines will not be stocked.  Please bring any snacks you need with you.  Even if you have a car, a 10 min break often isn't enough time to drive to a food service location, get food and get back.
  • You must enter and exit the building on the far side of the building (the door facing towards Selkirk School).  No other doors will be open.
  • Students may take work home, however they must complete tasks in order to get the next task worksheets etc.   The instructor needs to be confident that students have reviewed/completed the Learning Tasks (watching videos and reviewing notes) before students will be provided the Practice Tasks (Learning Guide Questions), and Practice Tasks must be completed and assessed prior to student receiving the Assessment Tasks (Lesson Assignment).
    • Practice tasks are weighted at only half of the value of Assessment Tasks (evaluations)
    • The Final Exam, which will cover all material dealt with during summer school, will be weighted at twice as much as all tests.
    • Tests can be taken home and are open book whether done at home or in class.
  • STUDENTS WILL NEED A GEOMETRY SET and A CALCULATOR with trig functions.
