The Basics

Grade 8 English is a basic introduction to all things literacy.  We will be doing some introduction to novel study, poetry, literary devices and analysis, critical thinking, research and writing.

The Materials

The materials will include the classic novel, The Outsiders, poetry by Canadian spoken work artist, Shane Koyczan, and short works from a different artists, in a variety of formats.

The Purpose

Ultimately, the purpose of the course is to encourage introduce students to secondary level materials, terminology and expectations while encouraging them to begin a life-long process of critically examining any and all texts they encounter and being able to communicate their ideas about the media that is part of our day-to-day lives.
